Classifying Asset Types at Upload

Learn how to classify your assets during upload so they're eligible for channel publishing.

When uploading assets to Prodify, the system attempts to automatically classify each file with an Asset Type based on its file extension. Assets that cannot be auto-classified must be manually classified before they can be published to any channel.

Roles: Editors and Admins can classify asset types at upload. Viewer roles have read-only access.

What Is an Asset Type?

Asset Type is the classification that tells Prodify — and your publishing channels — what kind of file an asset is. The available types are: BIM, 3D, CAD, Technical Specification, Non-technical, and Media.

Classifying assets correctly is required for channel eligibility. Unclassified assets cannot be published.

The Upload Preview Screen

After selecting files to upload, Prodify displays an Upload Preview screen before saving to your Asset Library. This screen shows all files being uploaded along with their auto-detected Asset Type, extension, and Channel Eligibility status.

If any files could not be auto-classified, a warning banner will appear at the top of the screen:

"X assets couldn't be auto-classified. Classification is required before publishing to any channel. Classify them now or save and return later."

Assets that were successfully auto-classified will display their Asset Type (e.g., BIM, CAD, 3D) as a colored pill. Assets that require manual classification will display an amber Classify button instead.

Classifying an Asset at Upload

  1. On the Upload Preview screen, locate any asset showing the amber Classify button in the Asset Type column.

  2. Click Classify to open the Asset Type modal.

  3. Select the appropriate Asset Type from the list: BIM, 3D, CAD, Technical Specification, Non-technical, or Media.

  4. Click Save.

  5. The asset's Asset Type column will update to reflect the selected classification.

  6. Repeat for any remaining unclassified assets.

  7. Once done, click Save to Asset Table.

Note: You can also skip classification at upload and return to classify assets later from the Asset Library. However, unclassified assets will not be eligible for channel publishing until they are classified.

Channel Eligibility Toggle

Each asset on the Upload Preview screen includes a Channel Eligibility toggle. This controls whether the asset is eligible to be published to channels. The toggle is on by default — if you want to mark an asset as ineligible at upload, you can turn it off here.

Classifying Assets After Upload

If you saved assets without classifying them, you can classify them later from the Asset Library. Unclassified assets will appear with an empty Asset Type cell. You can filter to unclassified assets using the Asset Type filter in the left sidebar, then open each asset to assign a type.

Note: Asset Type is also a requirement under CADdetails Readiness Rules. You can view assets that are unclassified or ineligible directly from Settings → Channel Publishing using the View unclassified assets and View ineligible assets links.

Updating an Asset’s Type After Upload

You can change an asset's type at any time.

• Single edit: Open the asset and select Set Asset Type, choose the new type, and click Save.

• Batch edit: Select multiple assets in the Asset Table, then choose Batch Edit > Set Asset Type to apply a type to all of them at once.

• Asset Form view: Open the asset's Form view and use the Asset Type field.
