Assigning and Managing Attributes on Product Families and Products

Attributes let you define and manage custom data on your Product Families and Products, replacing the previous Custom Fields system. Attributes support more field types and can be tracked across your catalog from a single location.

Roles: Editors and Admins can assign, edit, and remove Attributes. Viewer roles have read-only access.

What Are Attributes?

Attributes are custom fields you assign to Product Families and Products to capture information beyond Prodify's standard system fields β€” for example, material, finish, or certification data. Attributes replace Custom Fields and support additional field types, including text, number, decimal, date, boolean, link, and single/multi select.

The Attributes Tab

Open a Product Family and select the Attributes tab. If no attributes have been assigned yet, you'll see an empty state prompting you to assign your first attribute.

Assigning an Attribute

  1. Select Assign Attribute to open the Assign Attribute picker.

  2. Search for one or more attributes by name.

  3. Select the attributes you want to add and confirm.

Assigned attributes appear in a datatable on the Product Family form, where you can search the list or remove an attribute. Removing an attribute that's currently in use will prompt a warning modal before it's confirmed.

Editing an Attribute's Settings

Navigate to your PIM settings.

Open an attribute's Form view using the edit icon in the datatable, or by navigating directly to its URL.

The Form view includes breadcrumbs, a Settings section, and the attribute's current values. While editing:

  • The attribute type is locked and cannot be changed once set.

  • Required fields are validated before you can save.

  • Save only becomes enabled once you've made a change.

If you remove an option that's currently in use, or change the measurement type of an attribute with existing values, Prodify shows a warning modal before applying the change.

Attributes on the Products Tab

The Products tab displays custom attributes for each product. Select Edit to enter editing mode, where each attribute type has its own input β€” text, number, decimal, date, boolean, link, or single/multi select.

When you save changes, Prodify shows a summary of what's about to update. Saves are applied optimistically, so the table reflects your changes immediately.

Attributes on the Product Form

Each product also has its own Attributes tab on the Product Form, working the same way as the Product Family-level tab. (The Custom Fields tab is hidden here once Attributes is enabled for your organization.) If you navigate away with unsaved changes, Prodify prompts you to confirm before discarding them.

Attribute Locations

Open an attribute's Form view and select the Locations section to see every Product Family and Product currently using that attribute.

Use the Product Families / Products toggle to switch between record types and select any row to navigate directly to that record.
